Mamma Mia

She answered him, "Command that these two sons of mine sit, one at your right and the other at your left, in your kingdom." – Matthew 20:20-21

According to a research by Prof. G. Turner, intelligent men owe their brains to their mothers. Genes associated with intelligence are found on the X chromosome, the one which men inherit from their mothers. Thus, the gene, whether an intelligent one or not, can be inherited by the son from her, determining his basic intelligence, character and looks. The professor concludes that if a man wants smart sons, his best bet is to marry a smart woman.

The mother of James and John may seem to be a pushy or ambitious woman by asking Jesus to give her sons prestigious positions, but she must have done something right in producing two "sons of thunder," who are known in history as two of the 12 Apostles and one of the four Gospel writers.

To all mothers out there (including dads, too), may your influence in your children's lives be one that will leave a positive impact. May our children be the living testimony of the kind of parent we are. Ronna Ledesma (ronna_ledesma@yahoo.com.ph)

Reflection: The future destiny of a child is always the work of the mother. (Napoleon Bonaparte)

Lord, when You behold my children, may I hear from Your lips, "Well done, my faithful servant!"
